Surviving a Snowstorm with Twitter

The City of Calgary’s use of Twitter to communicate with its citizens during the intense snowstorm is a perfect example of how a reliable connection to the Internet is crucial during emergencies.

Granted, given Calgary’s location near the Rocky Mountains, they are accustomed to unseasonally harsh weather, but the handle @cityofcalgary still took to Twitter to provide updates and emergency related information.

Since Southwestern Ontario is comprised of so many rural areas and low-rise family communities, it is more important than ever to have a direct connection with county offices, government bodies, and weather forecasts.
